Invite people

Invite someone with a link BLOM emails to them. Choose their role, and they join by signing in with the email you invited.

In BLOMOrganizationPeople and access

Before you start

  • Only an Administrator invites people, in the BLOM app.
  • You need the person's name, and the email address that GitHub or Google has confirmed for the account they'll sign in with.
  • BLOM emails each invitation's link to the address you enter. It also shows you the link once, so you can share it yourself, by email or chat.

Agents don't join by invitation. An agent connects with a key that a person makes; see Agent keys.

Invite someone

  1. Open People and access

At the rail's foot, select Organization, then People and access.

  2. Select Invite a person

It's at the top of the page.

  3. Say who, and choose their role

Enter their Name and Email address, and choose a Role. Editor is chosen to begin with. Add a Reason (optional) if you like.

Under What will be recorded, BLOM says what the invitation offers before you create it.

  4. Select Create invitation

BLOM records the invitation and shows its link.

  5. Copy the link and share it

Select Copy the link, then send it to the person yourself. Select Done once it's copied.

Caution. BLOM shows an invitation's link once, and can't show it again. If it's lost, revoke the invitation and invite the person again.

The role you give them

An invitation offers the person their roles, each at a scope: the whole organization, a team, or a product. The person's membership and access begin when they accept.

RoleWhat it allows
ViewerRead the organization's work.
EditorRead and change the organization's work.
AdministratorManage the organization and access. For the whole organization, the role takes effect once the person has verified a phone number.

People and access covers the roles in depth.

How the invited person joins

Say Ada Lovelace invites Grace Hopper to Harbor Labs as an Editor. If you're the one invited, these steps are yours:

  1. Open the link

It opens BLOM's Join an organization page.

  2. Sign in with the invited email

Select Continue with GitHub or Continue with Google, with the account whose confirmed email address was invited. If you're already signed in with that account, BLOM shows the invitation at once. The link alone grants no access.

  3. Agree, and accept

The page names who invited you, your role, and when the invitation expires. Check I agree to the Terms of Service and I've read the Privacy Policy, then select Accept the invitation.

BLOM then opens Your queue in Harbor Labs, with Your access in Harbor Labs above it. Joining needs no phone check, and you don't create an organization.

An invited Administrator of the whole organization is the exception. That role waits for a verified phone number, and allows no access until then. To finish, select Verify your phone number, under Your access in Harbor Labs or on Your profile.

Pending, expired, and revoked invitations

On People and access, select Invitations to see every invitation, filtered by State: Pending, Accepted, Revoked, Expired, or All. Each shows the person, their role, its state, who invited them and when, and when it expires.

  • Expired. An invitation expires 7 days after you create it. To let the person join, invite them again.
  • Revoked. To withdraw a pending invitation, select Revoke, give a Reason, and select Revoke invitation. Its link stops working.
  • One at a time. An email address has one pending invitation at a time. To offer a different role, revoke the pending one and invite again.

A link that has expired, been revoked or used, or that's opened with a different email address, shows This invitation isn't available. The person asks you for a new one.

After they join

The person shows under People, with their Organization role and the date they Joined. An invited Administrator who hasn't verified a phone number yet shows Waiting for a verified phone number.
